A warm welcome Flicks in the Sticks - Lowdham Film Festival online.

Lowdham Festivals Ltd is pleased to present our seventh Flicks in the Sticks, a weekend of films adapted from books, an addition to our summer Book Festival and winter weekend. We hope you enjoy the films on offer.

Screenings will be in the Village Hall, suitably blacked out for the occasion!

Write a film review Competetion

This year’s Flicks’ competition is to write a film review. The film you chose does not have to be any of the films shown over this weekend; it could be a classic, children’s, subtitled, silent - anything really. .

Prizes – complimentary tickets for Broadway Cinema in Nottingham and publication of the best reviews on our website. Entries will be judged by Laraine Porter of Broadway Cinema.
Entries should be sent to Flicks Competition, The Bookcase, 50 Main Street, Lowdham NG14 7BE, or emailed to info@fiveleaves.co.uk with Flicks Competition as the subject heading, to arrive by 15th March 2008.

Reviews should be a maximum of 300 words and typed. Please include your full contact details and the exact name of the film

General

Flicks in the Sticks is organised and programmed by Jane Streeter (The Bookcase, www.thebookcase.co.uk) and Ross Bradshaw (Five Leaves Publications, www.fiveleaves.co.uk).

Showings are on 35mm reels with equipment from Reels on Wheels. Black out by Buster Marquees. Flicks in the Sticks’ programme includes films for all ages. The films are certificated to show suitability. Please ring 0115 9693597 if you need an explanation of the certificates.

General Information

The Village Hall is a community facility. We have black out, a wide screen, coffee and biscuits and cushioned plastic seats – but not cinema seats. Those of a sensitive disposition may wish to bring an extra cushion or a blanket for extra comfort!

Friends

Two years ago we launched a Friends scheme, and so far over 300 people have taken advantage of the many benefits offered by the scheme. Friends get discounted ticket prices at the Festival and our “Flicks in the Sticks” film programme in the spring, as well as other special events.

We celebrate Alan Sillitoe’s 80th birthday  with this 1962 film of teenage rebellion, based on his novel and screenplay.

We have been meaning to put on a silent movie for years, so here we are with this 1925 version of that mad composer falling in love with the young opera singer.

Silent? Not really – we go back in time to include live musical accompaniment, with Stephen Horne on piano, like it was before the talkies!
