A Good Story? A tour of ethics in five
tall tales, with Will Buckingham
What does it mean to be good? How should we live our
lives? Philosopher and novelist Will Buckingham embarks
upon on a whirlwind storytelling tour of ethics
and philosophy in the ancient world. In the company of
five philosophers - Socrates, Epicurus, the Buddha, Confucius
and Laozi - as well as a motley company of lunatics
and sages, saints and villains, this talk will ask what
these ancient philosophies and stories might have to say
to us today. Are these just good stories, or are they stories
that tell us something about what it means to be
good? Will Buckingham is the author of Cargo Fever and
Finding Our Sea-Legs.
He blogs on ethics at
